The Eastwood Troopers season came to a close as they fell to Memorial Mustangs 19-6 at UNT Stadium in Denton Tx Sunday morning.

The Troopers advanced to the Championship Game by defeating South Houston earlier in the day with a final score of 19-6.

This was the second time the Troopers and Mustangs faced each other this weekend, as the Mustangs took the victory Saturday in pool play with a final of 15-13.

The strategy for the Mustangs was simple, slow the game down, and they did just that, by executing clock management with each of their possession, snapping the ball til the last few sections of the play clock and getting much needed first downs along the way. The Trooper defense was in position throughout the game but the flags were just out of reach as Memorial kept continuing the drives holding on to a 6-0 nothing lead throughout most of the first half.

Offensively for the Troopers, they had their opportunities, with the ball just out of reach or just short of the first down, the troopers were able to cap of a drive to tie the game up.

In the second half the plan was the same for the Mustangs, control the clock, and for the most part they did just that, bending but not break. The Troopers mounted an attack as QQB #6 Maya Gandara was connecting with her receivers #10 Mariana Macias and #11 Angelyah Galford. Troopers got close to the end zone but the Mustangs made the stops when needed the most. Key turning point late in the second half, with the Trooper inside the Five yard line threatening to take the lead, Gandara throw a pass across the middle of the field and a Mustang defend undercuts the throw to intercept the ball and stop the drive for the troopers.

On the next drive Memorial finds their way back into the endzone to take the lead. Late in the second half the Troopers stop the mustangs for a short gain and looking to get the ball back to cut the lead, but on the very next play Memorial running back slashes through Eastwood defense on a 40 yard + TD run to seal the win for the Mustangs.

Eastwood Finishes the season 15-3 overall, the 2026 Region 19 Area Champions, 2026 Houston Texans Regional Champions. and 2026 Houston Texans State Runner-up.

With the win, Memorial Mustangs will battle the undefeated Heath Hawks the Dallas Cowboys league State Champions for the Texas Flag Football State Championship.
